Making a pit stop at Mandalgovi for a lunch break on our 8 hour road trip to our final destination, we found ourselves in the charming capital city of the Dundgovi province. With its quaint streets and nostalgic ambiance reminiscent of a scene from a 90s movie, Mandalgovi exuded a cozy charm that captivated us instantly. Indulging our taste buds at the @burd_restaurant_hotel, we savored hearty servings of pumpkin soup and goulash before venturing into a cute cafe for some delicious coffee. Amidst our culinary delights, we stumbled upon an intriguing painting depicting life in ancient Mongolia.

Our 7-hour bus ride from Ulaanbaatar to the Omnogovi province was no exception, offering us glimpses of Mongolia’s mesmerizing landscapes. After lunch, we headed to The Nature Conservancy Mongolia office where we were warmly welcomed by their staff members including Galbadrakh Davaa, the Country Director, and Enkhtuya Oidov, Senior Advisor to the Country Director.

As we sat together, they unveiled the incredible work TNC is doing in partnership with local herders. Through community-led grassland management, they’re not just preserving land; they’re preserving a way of life. From sustainable land practices to empowering initiatives like handicrafts, dairy/meat production, and eco-tourism, TNC is weaving a tapestry of sustainability and tradition.

At the office, we were also treated to some tea and were gifted a hand-woven snow leopard by the team.

As the plane descended into Ulaanbaatar, the clock striking 3am, we braced ourselves for the -20°C chill that awaited us outside. Bundled up in layers, we collected our luggage and met our guide @tsvkann

As we embarked on our hour-long bus ride to the city center, Tsevka not only provided us with a briefing for our upcoming expedition but regaled us with tales of Mongolia’s storied past, painting vivid pictures of its landscapes and people.

Arriving at our hotel, weary but exhilarated, we took a moment to rest and then grabbed a quick lunch, savoring the flavors of Mongolia while discussing our visit to the Nature Conservancy Mongolia office (in the next post).

During our trip to Kurseong in January this year, we were captivated by the enchanting Victoria Boys School at Dow Hill. Established in 1879, it proudly stands as one of the oldest schools in India. The school’s majestic presence leaves a lasting impression on all who visit.

There are mysterious tales that shroud this school. Even though we cannot verify the authenticity of the tales, the fascinating surrounding of the school does add an air of mystique.

The Victoria Boys School is undoubtedly a gem in Kurseong’s rich heritage, and its impressive architecture and history make it a must-visit for anyone exploring this beautiful region.

We wanted to add some more seafood to our food list in Goa so decided to drop into Morisco at @tajfortaguada, which is known for its local flavours and seafood.

We had a crab salad (the best), a beef steak (flavourful) and the Goan Morisco Grill (lobster + king prawn + pomfret served with coconut rice - need we say more!). As it was also Shabbir’s “official” birthday month the cake from Taj provided the perfect end to the dinner.

What made the experience even better was the amazing view from the restaurant, us being the only people in the restaurant, the impeccable service from the staff and the soothing decor and ambiance.
